I just found out how much a data recovery software can save my life, or what is left of it. There are so many of them, so, please help me choose. I’ve tried a free one mentioned by one of the reader here, but it is extremely slow, and I mean slowwwww. It took the whole day just to scan 50% of my hard drive, and the whole day just to undelete 20% of the 50% scanned files. But the problem is that I can not choose what type of files to recover. If you know or have used one, please let me know your opinion. Thanks all !

I am so sick of this I don’t know what to do. My computer decided to reinstall windows and “erased” my files from my computer. After calling Dell, I was directed to some “free” data recovery software and have spent the better part of today running them only to find out that I need to purchase the software in order to get my files back. I DO NOT have $100. Does anyone know where I can get completely FREE data recovery software? Just list the name not the link. Today I used powerdatarecovery and photo recovery both listed on http://www.raymond.cc/blog/archives/2008… and advanced NTFS recovery so no help there. Please help! I need to recover a deleted file from my camcorder

I own a Toshiba laptop, which, about 2 days ago, we used the product recovery program to restore it to factory settings, and we then re-installed everything.
After doing this, I have realised that we forgot to backup a load of files, and they have gone missing.
Those files just happen to be some of the most important files that we have.
Is there any hope of getting the files back? I would only like free software please.

i am looking to do data recovery work.
i am familiar with tools that are pre-installed prior to data loss.
however I am looking for a GUI tool that will run from CD so I can retreive data from clients hard-drives without having to install software to the pc.
installing can over-write data so is not a good idea.
i want to be able to pop in a cd, or usb key would do, then browse a drive and recover files to burn to dvd or cd.
then i can do a reinstall on the original drive or transfer files to a new pc.

My parents pc just got its hdd wiped clean and xp reinstalled, so is there a program that can recover data from the hdd before it was formatted?
