i am having a doubt about how the data is recovering from a formatted hard disk…can anyone let me know about this…..

  • Hard drives are huge. To find files faster they use indexes. To make deleting files quicker in the early DOS days, they would just remove the file from the index. The core data was still there. Undelete then would go thru and readd the file to the index if it hadn’t been over written by something else. If it had, DOS would pop an error saying File can’t be undeleted
    A format is basically rebuilding the entire index. So again, the actual data is still on the drive. Recovery software will go thru and analyze the actual sectors and rebuild the index to access the data that it finds.
    It gets more complex when you talk about partitions, what level of format you mean… etc…
